Some More Traditions (i forgot)

Old:
**Finding the Pickle at Grandma's**
there is a tradition in Germany I think it is and there is a pickle hid in the tree and the person to find it gets a present. Our present is a trip to the movies with the grandparents.

New:
**Ugly Sweater Gift**
there is this ugly ugly sweater that my sister found and we thought we would wrap it up and give it to my cousin as a gift. the rule was he had to wear it all day. next year another ugly sweater will be bought and someone new will be the victim. i'll post pictures of that later.
Day 25 of Christmas Memories
I have to admit I have ran out of memories but I thought I would list some Christmas Eve and Day traditions here at the Minter house and also new traditions that have came about this year actually just a few minutes ago.
Old Traditions:
**Gift Exchange on Christmas Eve**
(thanks to the Sedillos for the idea)
**Aunt Laurie spends the night**
**Track Santa**
there is a website you can go to and check to see where he has been
**Open gifts from youngest to oldest and then from oldest to youngest**
that way we can see what everyone got and it lasts a little longer
New Traditions:
**Pulling Christmas pranks on Kalah**
tonight Tarin came up with this idea to pull a prank on Kalah while she was sleeping but wasn't quite sure of what to do. with not much thought we decided to get out some old jingle bells and have Tarin run into her room telling her that Santa is on the roof as I was in the hall jingling the bells. Kalah said she knows she could hear them too and that was about as much as we got out of her this year. we plan to come up with a master plan through out this next year that will be perfect on Christmas Eve night
**Checking our License Plate List**
Tarin and I are starting a challenge tomorrow that we will have a little notepad in my car and her purse because she cant drive but this is how you play. Through out the year while you are driving in the "your" car or Tarin has to be riding in someone else's car besides mine you will write down out of state license plates. You want to get the most written down out of the 50 only writing each state down once. The one with the most written down buys the other 2 movie tickets. We are not for sure on the prize but that is whats in mind.

Day 24 of Christmas Memories
This was our first Christmas together. So cute. So young. So happy. I'm just kidding we are still cute, young, and happy.
Day 23 of Christmas Memories
This was my first quilt I ever made. My Aunt Laurie had just got a new bedroom set and I wanted to make her a blanket for Christmas to go with it. It was very small as you can see but is used for decorations to this day in her bedroom.

Day 22 of Christmas Memories

My mom does her yearly baking at Christmas time. Tons and tons of goodies. The family project is the sugar cookies. We cut them out and frost them. It's really messy but a good time.

Day 21 of Christmas Memories

If you were at the craft show you would have saw this gate. I originally made it for my mom about 5 years ago. It take a couple days to make but it was worth it. It prevents the little rugrats from unwrapping the presents or breaking any ornaments.

Day 20 of Christmas Memories

Before we lived at this house we are in now we rented a house. This was our first and only Christmas there. It was quite the piece of a house but it had a real fire place and to have that burning on Christmas morning was pretty cool.

Day 19 of Christmas Memories

Ever since I was in elementary school, I performed at a Christmas concert. It was always exciting because most of the time it was the first performance of the year and they were always fun songs. High school was more of a memory to me than the others because there was some weeks where we would have 4 performances in a week during the holidays. We would sing at company Christmas parties, assisted living homes, elementary school, the airports tree lighting ceremony, and many more. It was always a fun time. Your choir friends during that time are more like family because everything you do is with them. It was a lot of fun. I miss singing so bad!! I couldn't find my elementary school pictures but this is middle school and my friend might kill me if she sees this. I will vouch for her and tell you she looks nothing like this anymore.

This was high school. After the tree lighting ceremony at the airport every year we would go to Olive Garden for lunch. Another thing I loved about choir is I missed a lot of school in the month of December but it was all excused.

My Gift Tags
I got this idea from Jen's blog and I love how they turned out.
SNOW? IN VEGAS?
Unfortunately I was at work while all the snow was falling. I saw a good amount a work but of course I had no camera so this was one of my favorite pictures my mom took. I love how you can see the actual snowflakes. It is still so crazy to me that, that much snow actually fell in one day, in Vegas. Also the schools closing...who would have thought?? a snow day in Vegas?? I had to go to work today still but I enjoyed every minute of the snow though.

Update of Christmas Memories
Day 18 of Christmas Memories
This was the first tree that Josh ever bought me. It was a perfect little size. We went to target that night and bought ornaments and ribbon. And 2 stockings!!
Day 17 of Christmas MemoriesThis was a Christmas picture that my mom and aunt had put together for my grandparents for Christmas. We happen to get these porcelain dolls that had dresses to match ours so we wanted them in the picture too of course. Check out my cousin Skeeter's tie (he is on the right)...it's Barney. How fast time flies??
Day 16 of Christmas Memories
This was our family's first Christmas card. This is the only one that was saved. Out of all the times I have seen this picture, tonight was the first night I realized it had a note on the back. It reads: 3 months old Awburn, Mommy and Daddy love you very very much. Love, Daddy. 12.21.87. I just love reading notes like that. It totally made my day.
Day 15 of Christmas MemoriesWhen I was younger all of us girls got matching PJ's for Christmas morning. We would open them up the night before. Since we have gotten older we don't do it any more. I think we should though. Even just matching PJ pants would be fun.

Day 14 of Christmas Memories

When I was younger my Uncle Michael started this yearly tradition of getting me the holiday barbie for Christmas each year. I collected a decade of them. Starting in 1990 ending 2000. My Aunt Laurie started to get me the matching ornaments ornaments every year. I think I have a total of 7. Hopefully some day I'll be able to pass them down to my daughter. Here is some of the ones I have:

Day 13 of Christmas Memories

Every Christmas I feel there is a list of movies that should be watched sometime within December to make Christmas complete. Here is a list of my favorites that have to be watched:

I'll Be Home From Christmas
starring Johnathan Taylor Thomas (AKA JJT for my generation) and Jessica Biel
Christmas Vacation
starring The Griswolds, enough said.
This Christmas
starring Chris Brown
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
starring Jim Carey
Those are my all time have to sees at Christmas time but these are fun ones to watch too...
Miracle on 34th Street, Santa Claus 1, 2, and 3, Polar Express, 4 Christmases, and Elf.

Mamma Mia

Last night Tauni and I went to see Mamma Mia at Mandalay Bay. We had an awesome time and the show was so good. She had not see the movie yet but still loved it. I loved both just a much. I asked for the movie for Christmas so we are hoping I get it then we can plan a movie night and watch it. If you haven't see it yet you should go. We want to go again!!
Day 12 of Christmas Memories

I took piano lessons for 6 years and every year we would have a Christmas recital. We would choose a song that we loved to play and then we would practice for a few months and then perform it. I always felt bad for my mom and dad because they had to listen to it every day for a 1/2 hour or so leading up to the recital and then by then they already heard it.

Day 11 of Christmas Memories

This is my all time favorite Christmas song. It never seems to get old.

Day 10 of Christmas Memories

In 2001, my family went to Disneyland the first week in December. We had a blast. I loved the snow on Main Street and all the Christmas decor. It made it even more magical there. I would love to go again at Christmas time.

Day 9 of Christmas Memories

When we were little my mom signed up for this Disney ornament collection. We would receive ornaments through out the year in the mail and would add several ornaments to the tree at Christmas time. Now we have 20 some ornaments and these are a few of my favorites. Too many actually that they don't fit on our regular tree anymore. That is why we hang them from the banister.

Day 8 of Christmas Memories

Kalah put on a robe with a baby underneath and a blanket on her and called herself the Virgin Mary. I think that says it all!

Day 7 of Christmas Memories

Every year my family takes a trip to the Magical Forest at Opportunity Village. We have done it every year since it has opened. I love to see all the trees decorated by the different businesses. The rides and activities are usually fun. The racing slopes (the big slide with the potato sacks), the train, sledding on real snow, and merry go round (haven't done that one though since I was little). I love to look at the gingerbread houses that are made by the chefs at different casinos. But...a long with everything else it is getting really expensive to go though. We usually get tickets from my aunts work but they didn't get any this year so hopefully we will still get to go.

Day 6 of Christmas Memories

This is a countdown calendar that my Great Grandma Dee made for my Aunt LeAnn when she was little. Once we were born my aunt passed it to us. How it works: You untie a ribbon everyday starting with the bottom one December 1st and when you get to the snowman it's CHRISTMAS!! Since we are older now the daycare kids untie them during their circle time. I am kind of sad because now that LeAnn has kids we might have to give it back. Not that I still untie the bows but it is still a memory that is put on the wall every year and with out it our decor wouldn't be complete.

NFR Week In Vegas

Yesterday kicked off the NFR. This is one of my favorite things of the year even though I have never got to go. The reason I have so much fun this week is because my Aunt, Uncle, and cousins come into town. We hang out all weekend and just laugh and have a good time.
This year my cousin Amber came and we went out last night. We went to Toby Keith's Bar first because Chris Ledeux's son was playing there. Amber had been trying to go see them in Bakersfield but I guess she could never go. Also this was a free concert so she had a blast there. Then we headed to Stoney's but the line was just a little long and it was definitely too cold to sit outside and wait so I introduced her to Raising Cane's chicken fingers. She is addicted now.
Today we went to Cowboy Christmas at the convention center. It is full of all different stands but everything to do with country. Boots, jeans, shirts, belts, purses, blankets, and more. It was a lot of fun. So much to look at.
So far it has been a blast. We have more to come though and I am already worn out. Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to get tickets to the rodeo sometime this weekend!
Day 5 of Christmas Memories

One Christmas morning, my sister Kalah and I woke up to a play house that my Dad A.K.A Santa built for us. It was the coolest thing for 2 little girls to have. We had it completely furnished with one of those foam couches that pulled out into a bed, curtains, a kitchen set, and of course cribs for our babies. I love my Dad for those little things he did for us when we were little because those are the things that I'll remember forever. (Tarin wasn't born yet when we got the house but that is the only picture I could find with a full view of it)

Day 4 of Christmas Memories

This was my first rocking horse. I was 16 months old, an only child, the only granddaughter on one side, and the first grand kid on the other so needless to say I was one spoiled little girl on Christmas morning.

Day 3 Christmas Memories

Every year since we were little it was tradition that we take our pictures with Santa. We missed out last year but we already got it done this year. I recommend Town Square's Santa. He has his own little house and everything. This particular picture was taken at the Bass Pro Shop. We went there because they had 8 live reindeer pulling the sleigh and we thought it would be cool to see. Well apparently Santa thought "we" were cool to see. He was a really really young Santa and asked us to "sit on his lap" and not like he asked all the other little kids ahead of us in line. You might be a redneck Santa if you hit on the kids coming to tell you their wish list!!

Day 2 of Christmas Memories

I wish I could remember the year but I think Tarin was in 2nd or 3rd grade. On Christmas Eve, my Dad's side of the family gets together to exchange gifts and usually my Aunt Laurie spends the night and we all open Santa's gifts in the morning. This particular Christmas Eve, The Grinch Who Stole Christmas with Jim Carey just came out and so Tarin let me dress her up as Cindy Loo Who. We put a sock in the bun on the top and clothes hangers for the wired pig tails. It was a bit hit and a lot of fun to put together.

25 Days of Christmas Memories
As I was putting up the Christmas tree with my mom tonight I had several Christmas memories so I decided to post 1 memory a day. This will be fun for me and my family to have to think about fun things we have done in the past years at Christmas time.

Day 1 is a memory from last year. A little background info...my boyfriend seems to surprise me every year with a real Christmas tree in my room. So last year I am laying in my bed half asleep looking at my tree when I "think" I see it starting to fall but I figured it was just my eyes from being tired and then all of a sudden I realize it WAS falling. I tried to jump up to catch it but I didn't make it in time. It stayed on the floor until I woke up the next day.
My next 24 memories I try to make more exciting with some young childhood memories and pictures. 1 down 24 to go!
Update Overload

The twins turned one. We had a Baby Sesame Street themed party. I wish I could have got better pictures but it was difficult to get through the grandmas, grandpas, great grandparents, aunts and uncles paparazzi. I guess that what happens when your just a cousin.Thanksgiving came and went. My sister and my cousin were in town. Also my mom's brother and his kids were in town. It was the first time they have ever came for Thanksgiving. We may have had 22 people here but we were still 2 people down. My Aunt Laurie was in the hospital (I hope that never, never happens again) and my cousin Skeeter was in Disneyland with his dad (I couldn't blame him for that). We managed to get a picture in Wednesday morning though before he left.
Clockwise: Me, Jeremy, Brandi, Tarin, Kalah, and Skeeter (my cousins on my mom's side)

We went out as a family this past weekend. We went to the Geshia house for dinner. It was a hole in the wall but it is one of those places where they cook for right in front you. My sisters and I had never been to a place like that so we thought it was the coolest thing. After dinner we went and saw Four Christmases. It was pretty good. They showed most of the funny parts in the commercials though.

Tarin thought she was at a Chinese restaurant and had to cross her legs.

My sisters and I also went to the Jonas brothers concert. I guess it is like my N*sync but it just wasn't as good. My little sister loved it though. We didn't know until we got there but they were playing with Demi Lavato, her other favorite singer from Camp Rock. We had a really good time. We made shirts and all!

The cover of the Neon section the weekend they performed.

Cute shirts but no I really don't have a crush on Kevin
